CANDY FOR KINGS
The royal court has a long tradition of serving sweets at special banquets and celebrations. These often feature portraits of royalty. The most recent event with such confectionery was the royal couple’s silver wedding anniversary in 2001. Shown here are a few older, lavish examples from Oscar I and Queen Josefina’s banquets at the royal palace in the mid-19th century, preserved by their daughter, Princess Eugenie (1830-1889).
